Seafood Night at Over the Moon Cafe & Gallery
Over the Moon Cafe owner Tom Ryan came up with an irresistible combination tonight: He had Scott Perry playing blues and roots while Tom and his staff served up Indigo Farm's incredible seafood.
The doors opened at 6 o'clock and ten minutes later an overflow crowd was lined up at the counter with more people coming through the door. The crowd was an interesting mix of tourists and families with children.
The parking lot was full, the outside dining area was full, and people were having a marvelous time chatting with strangers and tapping their feet to Scott Perry's infectious rhythms.
Fortunately, the Over the Moon Gallery offers a perfect place to browse and socialize while waiting for an open table. The artwork is constantly changing and the Gallery is worth a visit anytime.
This was the first time Over the Moon Cafe staged a Seafood Night and I'm betting they will do it again. The Over the Moon Cafe is located above the Harvest Moon Foodstore which is located at 227 North Locust Street approximately one half mile north of the only stoplight in Floyd County, Virginia.
Susan Handy and Teresa Nester established Indigo Farms Seafood in 1993 to bring fresh seafood to the New River Valley.
It is a common sight to see people lining up in back of their truck at their regular stops in the New River Valley, but this is the first time I ever saw them preparing seafood.
I managed to wangle a sample of their spicy boiled shrimp and it was delicious. I later had the Seafood and Andouille Gumbo and it was excellent.
Look at the evening's menu and you can see why this was an opportunity
to take the family out for great food at a reasonable price. The
portions were generous and the food was remarkable.
Scott Perry's music was the perfect accompaniment and made for a memorable evening.
